Communication Styles!

The Thinking & Acting Styles create combinations that predict how people will apply their styles when communicating with others (including when they're in leadership roles!). The Four Primary Communication Styles are: CHANGERS, PERFORMERS, CONSERVATORS, & PERFECTORS. The Changers Changers combine the creative thought power of Innovators with the bold action orientation of Stimulators. Changers take new ideas & work to make them happen by implementation. They create change through experimentation instead of analysis, preferring to implement first & fine tune later. Changers tend to be free-thinking "sparkplugs" driven to act on new ideas. Their communication style is: "Great idea; let's try it!" The Perfectors Perfectors combine the creative thought power of Innovators with the powerful analysis & investigation skills of Analyzers. Whereas Changers will implement first & fine tune later, Innovators take a new idea & "try i...

How do you think & act?

At work & at home, each of us has been & again will be in communication. Our personal communication styles will dictate to a great extent our success in coordinating action & in relationships. It's unfortunate that we usually enter into communication situations without an awareness of our personal styles of communicating. We just do what comes naturally to us (but not necessarily to others.) One thing is certain every communicator anywhere continually THINKS & ACTS. This is where we begin our exploration of communication styles: how we Think & Act? In the Communication Styles , there are two thinking styles, and two acting styles, Acting Style 1: The Stimulators as you might guess, people with this acting style strive to implement new actions quickly & intuitively, without structure. On teams & in meetings, stimulators will speak up to suggest easier ways to accomplish work & will be the first to embrace new approaches to old problems. Because they ...

Some morals for the happy life - 3rd

RIGHT SPEECH: There is a Chinese saying which carries the meaning that "A speech will either prosper or ruin a nation." Many relationships break off because of wrong speech. When a couple is too close with each other, we always forget mutual respect & courtesy. We may say anything without considering if it would hurt the other party. A friend & her millionaire husband visited their construction site. A worker who wore a helmet saw her & shouted,"Hi, Emily! Remember me? We used to date in the secondary school." On the way home, her millionaire husband teased her, "Luckily you married me. Otherwise you will be the wife of a construction worker." She answered ,"You should appreciate that you married me. Otherwise, he will be the millionaire & not you." Frequently exchanging these remarks plants the seed for a bad relationship. It's like a broken egg - cannot be reversed. PERSONAL PERCEPTION: Different people have different perc...

Some morals for the happy life - 2nd

CREATING PERFECT RELATIONSHIPS: A person visited the government matchmaker for marriage, & requested "I'm looking for a spouse. Please help me to find a suitable one." The officer said, "Your requirements, please." "Oh, good looking, polite, humorou s, sporty, knowledgeable, good in singing & dancing. Willing to accompany me the whole day at home during my leisure hour, if I don't go out. Telling me interesting stories when I need companion for conversation & be silent when I want to rest." The officer listened carefully & replied, "I understand you need television." There is a saying that a perfect match can only be found between a blind wife & a deaf husband, because the blind wife cannot see the faults of the husband & the deaf husband cannot hear the nagging of the wife. Many couples are blind & deaf at the courting stage & dream of perpetual perfect relationship. Unfortunately, when the excitement of...

Some morals for the happy life.

TRUST is a very important factor for all relationships. When trust is broken, it is the end of the relationship. Lack of trust leads to suspicion, suspicion generates anger, anger causes enmity & enmity may result in separation. A telephone operator told me that one day she received a phone call. She answered, "Public Utilities Board." There was silence. She repeated, "PUB." There was still no answer. When she was going to cut off the line, she Heard a lady's voice, "Oh, so this is PUB. Sorry, I got the number from my Husband's pocket but I do not know whose number it is." Without mutual trust, just imagine what will happen to the couple if the telephone operator answered with just "hello" instead of "PUB". NO POINTING FINGERS: A man asked his father-in-law, "Many people praised you for a successful marriage. Could you please share with me your secret?" The father-in-law answered in a smile, "Never criticize...

What No B-School Can Teach You.

"Experience is a hard teacher because it gives the test first & the lesson afterwards." by a philosopher. These lines summarize the basic difference between a B-school & what life teaches you at work. B-schools teach you models, case studies, strategies, best practices & so on. But success has rules which are far beyond the books. To win, one has to master some 'tactics' that define the line between the ordinary & the extraordinary. I have been fortunate to be associated with some exceptionally talented people who have constantly challenged my views & sparked new thought processes. Let me share some of these simple ideas that are not taught in B-school, but have made an impact in my life & work style. Pride: Let's face it, we're alive for only a limited period of time & we'll spend most of our lives working. That being the case, I believe the number one priority is to do whatever we do as well as we can, & take pride in tha...
