Overcome microwave mentality

A life coach  shares one of her personal experiences and ways to overcome it. I recall one day standing by my microwave and thinking to myself, “Man, this sure is taking a long time!” As soon as those words entered my mind, I realized that I had been conditioned by instant-gratification ideology. I was no longer patient. I wanted instant results—results so quickly that I considered the microwave as taking too much time. This was an eye-opener for me. In order to have anything of lasting value it must be started on a strong footing. The groundwork may take time, yet it's essential for quality to be prevalent. We need to realign our thinking. Pursue your goals and dreams with a desire for quality, regardless of the time and effort it takes. After all, anything worth doing is worth doing right.

Partitions divide countries, friendships find a way

A wonderful story from Google showing how human passion and hope can overcome time and borders. In this story, a woman in India reunites her grandfather with his childhood friend (now in Pakistan) following six decades of separation with a little help from Google. Whether you're in Pakistan or India or simply have a soft spot in your heart for stories of reunited friends. Well, then watch this. This is a reflection of the many stories of reunion. If you find it moving, do share it. We are all incredibly fortunate to be living in today's world where technology is helping us become more human.

What makes the Nexus 4 Special

After a long wait, I finally got a chance to put my tinkering paws on Google and LG's lovechild. The verdict?  Google Nexus 4 . It's simply phenomenal. The phone is just attractive. Very solid-feeling, and the Gorilla Glass front and back give it a jewel-like appearance. After trying to decide between Nexus 4, Samsung Galaxy S4, and the HTC One. I found SGS4 plasticky and not a flagship device. Also, it wasn't as fluid as I've got used to after using Nexus devices. HTC One was much better. It felt great in hand, the speakers sounded great, and it was smooth. But, then I really  came to a conclusion  that I couldn't ignore, all of these phones will be outdated in a year and just plain old in two years. With Nexus 4, even though hardware would pale in comparison to next gen. devices, but software inside it would keep it fresh for me to use it on daily basis. So, I went with Nexus 4(N4). It certainly feels in the same league as the HTC O...

Google Reader's demise levels the playing field

Way back in March, Google  revealed  plans to shut down eight of its services as part of what it calls an ongoing spring cleaning effort. I was pretty  bummed  to see that Google Reader will be shut down on July 1. Yes, Google Reader my most used app on web is history now. This is one web app(in simple terms it could get a list of all the recent "new stuff" that a site or a user or a channel has published, so you don't have to go anywhere, every new thing came inside Reader), that will be remembered by me forever, it made me the regular reader that I've become by using it almost everyday since last 7-8 yrs. My first reaction was: How am I going to work now? I use Google Reader every day to aggregate and filter news, analysis and research. I cannot  begin  to tell you how big a difference Reader made to  my work flow  by saving so much time and effort. Almost every blog, technology website has a RSS(Real Simple Syn...

Change is Inevitable

Glass is finding its way to developers and others and the reaction has been, well, predictable. I’ve been watching with great interest over the past few weeks as the naysayers seem to have gone overboard trying to bash +Project Glass  every chance they can. I’ve seen articles on Wired , CNN , Venturebeat , Businessinsider and on blogs, etc., all stating how terrible Glass is. Oh NO, geeky white dudes are wearing Glass ! This will never work!  Nobody Likes Google Glass  Oh no, I will punch someone in the face if they try talk to me with them on — all sorts of gibberish. It’s these kinds of comments, however, that are stoking the privacy fears around Glass, no matter how unfounded they are. There’s nothing like change to bring out the absolute haters. It seems like every time something comes out that represents change, people freak out. It’s not enough to say, “this thing is not for me.” People like to go absolutely overboard, talking about how horrible s...

I'm Deepak Ravlani, and This Is How I Work

Like so many heroes of the startup world, I started early after college. Now, with years of experience in Technology behind me, it has become a lot easier to polish my workflow and get lots of stuff done. Let's talk about my workspace setup, go-to apps, best life hacks, favorite gadgets and tunes. In my free time, I work on a few side projects, including Blogging and managing several  communities  over Google+ . Since launching in Dec 2012, +Project Glass  community has become one of the fastest growing community. With  more than 2500(and counting) users and a thriving community of Glass fans, needless to say, the past few months have been crazy for me.  Last time I went through this , it was 2008. I was using different apps, but did have sort of productivity system that  really  helped me get things done. In last few years, I've picked up a few tips and tricks along the way and I've been making som...
