The questions we ask reveal who we are

The biggest moments of 2015 inspired trillions of questions. See what the world wanted to know. From the Paris attacks and the Syrian refugee crisis, to the biggest blockbuster science fiction movie we can think of, we all turned to Google at some point this year to find what we were looking for. For the people out there wondering what this is all about. Whether it is about courage or controversy. Well, I'll tell you what it's all about. It's about what happens from here. It's not just about one person. It's about thousands of people, It's about all of us accepting one another. We're all different, that's not a bad thing, that's a good thing. And, while it may not be easy to get past the things you don't always understand, it is absolutely possible, if we only do it together. Take a look back to what mattered to us this year through full Year in Search: http://google.com/2015 In case you missed the previous Google Zeitgeists: › 2014:...

Meet The New Google+: Simpler, Faster, Better

After using it for last week, I find, It's the same but not the same. The New +Google+  is fast, super light and highly responsive and yes as always is all about the stuff you're into and the people who get you. The focus is on the redesign , the bold colors, and the improved access to Collections and Communities(these are the places on Google+ where people around the world are spending their time discovering and sharing things they love), but there's a better story hiding there for everyone. As much as I've loved Google+ , it was stupid slow to load, it used to leave Chrome often in a laggy state. The last thing minimalism lovers like me want is bloat, and I knew Google could change this. So, they did , and it is freaking awesome to see, how much they've done in the background to get to this speed. So, this change is welcome. Developers have even published a case study on the work that went behind this redesign. Why are they changing so much? Reach . Fa...

What is code? Why is everyone talking about it these days?

What is code? Why is everyone talking about it these days? We know that when we enter code into a computer we get software.  And we know that software is part of the fabric of our lives - from the computers in our cars to the ATMs that spit out our money, and to the switching channels on our cable boxes, our lives are run by software. But how does all that actually happen? Not everyone knows how code actually works and why it’s so important. This video takes the confusing subject of coding and makes understandable, while offering fun exercises throughout to demonstrate each point. Whether or not you are interested in coding yourself, it’s worth learning how software and technology work, since they’re eating the world . This might be the most entertaining, thorough, and easiest way to do so. #softwareeatingtheworld   #softwaredriven   #coding    #yearnandlearn https://youtu.be/P86w6CHhmQ4

Over the next 10 years, the battles between incumbents and software-powered insurgents will be epic.

Over the next 10 years, the battles between incumbents and software-powered insurgents will be epic. More and more major businesses and industries are being run on software and delivered as online services—from movies to agriculture to national defense. Many of the winners are technology companies that are invading and overturning established industry structures. Over the next 10 years, many more industries will be disrupted by software , with new world-beating companies doing the disruption in more cases than not. With lower start-up costs and a vastly expanded market for online services, the result is a global economy that for the first time will be fully digitally wired. There are many dramatic examples of this phenomenon of software eating a traditional business like, Books :  The suicide of Borders and corresponding rise of Amazon. Today, the world's largest bookseller, Amazon.com, is a software company—its core capability is its amazing software engine for selling virtually e...

Will Automation make human work obsolete?

Will Automation make human work obsolete? Robots now build cars and power mechanical diggers and other "dumb" jobs. What will surprise you is how quickly "mechanical minds" are making human brain labor less in demand. Still think robots can’t do your job? Automation and robotics will eventually take over most of the tasks, especially the labor expensive ones, as computing gets smarter. Talk of robots making humans obsolete is generally a topic that is still laughed off as science fiction by most, but this video could get you to rethink the future human work. It lays out a compelling case for why almost half of those currently in the work force could struggle to find work once automation takes over in the near future. Unlike "the singularity," in which artificial intelligence takes over the planet in rapid and dramatic fashion, this paints a picture, backed up by statistics and current developments, indicating that the true singularity will occur gradually,...

A Phone That Can Adapt

Deconstructing the complexity of a smartphone and refashioning it as a bunch of swappable components which can be slotted together in various custom combinations by the user is clearly not going to be a cakewalk. Will be interesting to see, how will current companies think and react to potentially large platform shifts as opportunities or threats like these and the disruptive effects of this new platform? We are living in a time when technology is riding high and showing little signs of stopping, and underneath this swell of activity are newer, emergent platforms, which could dramatically alter industries and the profits of corporations who dismiss them. For a moment in time, resisting new platforms can fit into a corporate strategy. However, over time, companies must constantly ask hard questions and reassess the growth of emergent platforms and not make small moves too late. Often, these platforms can get so big, they turn into unstoppable(ala  +Android ) movements. Mobile, ...
